After coming up short for a third straight time in Knoxville, the Crimson Tide have run out of room for error in 2026.

Saturday's 16-point loss marked the first time since Nick Saban's inaugural campaign that Alabama has been defeated in consecutive regular season games. Physicality told the story on both sides of the ball for the Vols, sacking Keelon Russell four times and rushing for 150 yards on the ground.

An Alabama offense that has been lauded as one of the more explosive in the nation has come down to earth in the past two weeks, averaging only 13.5 points per game. Health has certainly played a factor in the lack of production, as starters Ryan Coleman-Williams and Racin Delgatty were both out with injuries this past weekend.

The Crimson Tide's defense continued to struggle containing the run against Tennessee, allowing DeSean Bishop to rush for nearly 160 yards and two scores. George MacIntyre's ability to exploit certain coverages led to many problems in the secondary, particularly on perimeter screen passes.

Despite the disheartening result, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb told reporters on Monday that he remains steadfast in his belief that Alabama's offense possesses a great deal of grit and determination.

"They're (the offense) tough as hell. Those kids didn't quit for one second. Let's just line back up and let's see where they are at the end of the season. Even at the end of the game when things weren't perfect, I thought they kept throwing punches and the guys kept Keelon up on the sideline."

Defensive Coordinator Kane Wommack feels that his defensive unit is still one of the most physical in the country.

"I think when you watch the way we're playing right now, there are things that need to get corrected from a fundamental standpoint. We overpursue at times, and there were some issues with tackling. But, from a physicality standpoint, I think that is something that we are doing a good job of."

Alabama will be playing host to the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday, matching up with a former annual SEC West opponent for the first time since 2023. Mike Elko's team has not quite lived up to its preseason expectations, but playmakers like Marcel Reed, Isaiah Horton and KJ Edwards are more than capable of giving Alabama's defense problems on its homecoming.

This contest will be huge for the psyche of redshirt freshman quarterback Keelon Russell, who has thrown only one touchdown and turned the ball over four times in his last two games. With Williams likely out once again, Rico Scott and Lotzeir Brooks will continue to serve as the Duncanville product's primary weapons, along with dynamic tight ends such as Marshall Pritchett and Kaleb Edwards.

Defensively, Alabama is looking to re-establish dominance in the trenches. The inability to stop the run has been the most broadcasted issue, but the lack of a relentless pass rush has been equally problematic.

The Crimson Tide finds itself with its back against the wall, but hopes of hoisting a College Football Playoff National Championship trophy have not been dashed just yet.
