The Thompson Warriors boast elite talent on both sides of the ball, dominating opponents on Fridays and scouting colleges on Saturdays, as many of them plan for their future after high school.
Sean Sigler, a three-star junior cornerback, balances those Friday night performances with recruiting visits. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound athlete had the opportunity to attend Mississippi State’s Sep. 5 home opener at Davis Wade Stadium, getting a glimpse of college-level football and its electric atmosphere.
“It’s real exciting,” Sigler said about taking college visits. “It’s like a dream for real. Not everybody gets to do what I’m doing, so it’s real exciting. I love what I’m doing; I love where I’m at.”
Sigler is one of many transfers on a 4-0 Thompson squad that has consistently overwhelmed opponents. Their dominant start has sparked conversation about whether this is the best team in program history.
“We’re so special because we all communicate with each other, we talk to each other, love each other, and it’s all teamwork and chemistry,” Sigler said.
The Warriors’ defense has held opponents to 14 or fewer points in four games, allowing the offense to win by 24 or more points. The unit has thrived on forcing turnovers and setting up the offense for high-scoring drives.
“We all just have to keep putting the work in, keep communicating, and doing what we got to do,” Sigler said about enjoying wins but looking forward to the next.
Sigler has been finding his way as a first-year member of the Warriors. In last Friday’s 48-14 victory over Spain Park, Sigler was all over the field, making tackles, locking down wide receivers, and nearly getting his first interception of the season. In four games, Sigler has accumulated 15 tackles, two pass deflections, and three tackles for loss.
As the season continues, the Warriors will be an intriguing team to watch as they continue their quest for an eighth state championship.
Thompson will host Tuscaloosa County for homecoming at 7:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
