Week 6 of college football delivered upsets, shocking results, and dominance, proving why it's the greatest sport.

Starting with the most-heavily-covered game of the week, Alabama versus Georgia. The Bulldogs defeated the Crimson Tide 20-17, marking their first win in Tuscaloosa since 2007. Veteran quarterback Gunner Stockton led the Bulldogs to victory, finishing 18-22 with 249 passing yards and one passing and one rushing touchdown. Dwight Phillips Jr. led the rushing attack, finishing with 17 carries for 120 yards.

The Bulldogs' defense was highlighted by their effort to hold Alabama to just three points in the second half, sacking quarterback Keelon Russell four times. The win moved the Bulldogs up one spot in the recent AP Poll, now No. 1 in the country heading into Week 7.

Alabama-Georgia wasn't the only SEC game to deliver a thriller; the biggest upset of the weekend came from the Red River rivalry. Oklahoma won 27-24 on a last-second 47-yard field goal by Tate Sandell. Despite the close contest, neither quarterback, John Mateer nor Arch Manning, had their best game. Mateer threw no touchdowns, while Manning threw two interceptions, including one that set up the Sooners' game-winning field goal and dropped Texas from No. 1 overall to No. 7.

Wide receiver Cam Coleman had a day for Texas, finishing with five receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown, continuing to be a solid piece for the Longhorns offense. However, the Sooners came to play and made history: they were 0–4–1 all-time against Texas when the Longhorns were ranked No. 1 in the country, but the 27-24 win changed that record and added to the rivalry's long history.

In a much-needed win, South Carolina upset No. 16 Florida 38-19 on the road. LaNorris Sellers threw for five touchdowns, while the Gamecocks' defense forced three turnovers. Shane Beamer was on the hot seat before this win, but now, with a 3-3 record and more football to play, he has a chance to get his team to a bowl game and salvage the season. The Gamecocks enter a Week 7 bye before meeting the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The loss to the Gamecocks marked back-to-back losses for the Gators, who seemed dominant after opening the 2026 season 4-0 under first-year head coach Jon Sumrall, their first 4-0 start since 2019. Since then, the Gators are 4-2, but they'll have a shot at redemption as they head on the road to No. 7 Texas, hoping to return to the AP Poll and the win column.

In Lexington, Kentucky beat No. 10 LSU 35-34 in an overtime thriller. Kentucky went for the win, and it paid off when Kenny Minchey ran in the go-ahead touchdown. CJ Baxter was the guy for Kentucky, with 19 carries for 123 yards and two touchdowns. This LSU loss makes it their worst start since 2023. Kentucky, meanwhile, is 5-1 (3-1 in the SEC) and now ranked No. 15 in the country.

The Big Ten also had some great games this past weekend. Indiana scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to come back and defeat Nebraska on the road, extending its FBS winning streak to 22 and handing Nebraska their first loss of the season.

Josh Hoover threw for two touchdowns, and Nick Marsh caught six passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns, leading to the 20-17 victory. The Hoosiers enter Week 7 with a top-five matchup against No. 4 Ohio State, which features Heisman candidate Jeremiah Smith.

Staying on the topic of Ohio State, they blew past Maryland 45-16; the win was powered by two touchdowns from Smith and four passing touchdowns from Sayin.

The Big Ten out west showcased UCLA and a struggling Oregon. UCLA made a huge Big Ten statement with the 17-15 win, improving to 5-0. Unfortunately, quarterback Nico Iamaleava left the game due to injury, and on Monday, it was confirmed he suffered a season-ending ACL injury.

The Bruins' defense traveled well, forcing 10 combined turnovers. That dominant performance will need to carry the Bruins after losing their starting quarterback if they want to keep fueling the offense's success by getting the ball back to them to create plays.

The Bruins enter Week 7 as the No. 12 team in the country, while Oregon drops out of the AP Poll.

The USC Trojans escaped with a win during Penn State's whiteout. USC won 31-23, led by a three-touchdown, 301-yard passing game to three different receivers. USC moves on to 6-1 and No. 19 in the country. Penn State falls to 3-3 in its third straight loss.

Other notable events from this past weekend: UNC knocked off No. 25 Pitt, Missouri dominated a severely declining Texas A&M team, Utah sits at 5-0, winning every game by 30 or more points, and NDSU lost its first FBS game.

With many notable teams losing this past weekend, this marks the third time in AP Poll history that three top-10 SEC teams lost on the same day.

As Week 7 of the college football season approaches, many teams face pressure to stay perfect, while others try to salvage their season.
