A'ja Wilson continues to prove why she is one of the best active players in the WNBA and will be remembered as one of the best to ever play in the league.
Wilson's decorated career is highlighted by her 2018 Rookie of the Year award, three WNBA championships (2022, 2023, 2025), four Most Valuable Player awards (2020, 2022, 2024, 2025), three WNBA Champions (2022, 2023, 2025), two WNBA Finals MVP awards (2023, 2025), and three Defensive Player of the Year honors (2022, 2023, 2025). On Sunday, she added to her legacy by winning The Associated Press WNBA Player of the Year award for an unprecedented third consecutive season.
Wilson received 15 of the 17 first-place votes from a national media panel, beating Olivia Miles of the Minnesota Lynx, Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell of the Indiana Fever.
Not only did Wilson win the award for an unprecedented third straight season, but she also earned the honor for the fourth time in her career, breaking a tie with Breanna Stewart for most since the award was first given in 2016.
Sunday was a big day for Wilson: Not only was she named Player of the Year, but later that night she became the only player in WNBA history to record 35 or more points and 15 or more rebounds in multiple playoff games. She finished with 38 points, 16 rebounds, two steals, and four blocks in the Las Vegas Aces' 102-85 victory over the Indiana Fever in the first round.
As the playoffs are just getting started, Wilson—who traditionally turns it up a notch in the playoffs—could very well continue to set records and build on her standout career.
